French sports officials are thinking about banning Lance Armstrong from racing in the Tour de France. He passed a series surprise drug tests, but they didn’t like how he acted when he took the test. What’s up with the French? This makes them look like a bunch of chickens to me.  And when is the last time a Frenchmen actually won the Tour de France anyway?

It appears that Time Warner is starting to charge for internet usage a different way, by charging per Gigabyte. Great, just what the economy needs right now. Charging per Gig will change how people use the internet (so good-by Netflix, Apple TV, and all of the great content rich websites that make the internet 2.0 worth while).

Did anyone see “Beyond the Secret” yesterday? As much as I tried to listen to what was being talked about, I couldn’t get past the lousy production. If the camera wasn’t shaking, it was pointed away from the person who was speaking. And I must have seen the camera crane or boom mike three or four times.

I really wanted this to be better than it was, since I liked “The Secret”.

But to look at the positive, at least Larry King bailed out, and was replaced by Leeza Gibbons (much nicer to look at for two hours than Larry).
The speakers/panelists their thing well. I am very interested in how the actual “Beyond the Secret” (which comes out in April) will be.

Why isn’t the Obama assassination attempt on the news?

I was on vacation in Central America for a couple of weeks. The big news on every station was the assassination attempt on Obama. But what was even more bizarre, to me, was what happened when I returned to the U.S. Whenever I brought the subject up in conversation, no one heard about it! I would really love some feed-back on this. (Was there any news coverage about this? or does no one watch the news anymore?)

When I did a search online about it, there seemed to be plenty of info. Such as four guys being arrested, they said the may be part of some white supremacist group, and they planned to shoot Obama while he was giving a speech on live T.V. Imagine what kind of spectacle this would have been if it was carried out! (The only thing comparable would be the Kennedy assassination.)

1) I would like to take a Poll: Did you see any T.V. coverage of the Obama assassination attempt?

a. Yes

b. No

2) And for extra points: If you answered “no”, why do you think it is not being reported?

Today we are relying more and more on the internet. We are constantly looking up facts on Wikipedia or google. I’ve come the the realization that the more we rely on these technologies, the less we will be able to remember stuff.

Every time I need to find out something quickly, I google it. Even worse, I’ve begun to google things I already know the answer to (just to double check). It’s almost as if the information on the web is the ultimate source of truth. But hold on, how can you tell of what your reading online is fact or fiction? Aside that, I’ve begun to do worse things!

Who is the forst president of the United States?

Now I look up experiences, such as how to best open a coconut or a good receipt for potato pancakes! It’s as if my own way of doing things is not good enough anymore, and I must consult the great oracle all the time. What ever happened to trial and error? Or figuring it out myself? You may be thinking, “why waste time, if you can get the best way to do it online?”

The information sources on line have been incorporated into my life so much, it’s like having a second brain of sorts. A brain where I have access to the collective knowledge and experiences of millions of people. It’s not until I went away on vacation that I began to notice what a problem this was. I felt like I was going through some kind of technology withdrawal. These were withdrawal symptoms from not having my second brain. But luckily I soon adapted. And I began to imagine how much power the “content writers” of the Web have. They are in-effect thinking for people, who are relying on their opinions/knowledge of the facts.

Having access to all of this information is a great thing, don’t get me wrong, but you may not realize how much it has a hold on you unless you unplug. -MP

Will virtual reality technology, such as Second Life, be our new way of life in the near future? Here are some reasons I believe we will all be spending 8 or more hours in virtual worlds:

1) Fuel prices will put added pressure on companies to allow for their employees to work from home. But,  people are designed to interact with one another. Virtual environments will allow people to do business in a “quasi in person” way.

2) Outsourcing jobs to other countries started out as just manufacturing, then to technology fields, customer support, and now it’s moving towards the accounting and legal fields. With so many people doing business scattered all over the globe, virtual forums will start to make more sense, because you will be able to have all of your employees in one virtual location.

3) Technology will catch-up soon. In order to do this right, we will need huge amounts of bandwidth (and it needs to be widely available and comonplace). Let’s face it, right now virtual sites like Second Life remind you of a video game more than real life, but of course that will change.

I predict that in the future, there will be a blurry line between the real world and the online world. What do you think?

Can Online Social networking cause dangerous security and privacy issues, or is it a panacea for dealmakers and job hunters. I have friends on both side of this issue, both trying to influence me to see their point of view. One associate of mine insists on the importance of having a profile on LinkedIn & Facebook. “Soon you wont see paper resumes or get a business card, everything will be done via Facebook or other sites”. Non-web 2.0 savvy folks will have a tough time getting employment in the future.

“But your every move is been tracked and recorded”, my paranoid friends tells me. The police already use websites like MySpace to find people and they can get your Google search records (which is admissible in court). But why worry about this, if not doing anything illegal? Maybe I’m being naïve?

Who is right? Like all technology, Online social networking is a double edged sword (i.e. fire can cook your food and it can burn down your house).
